grub2-efi uploaded in case anybody wants to test (u)efi boot.

Note that many (most?) machines seem to use 64bit (u)efi - in this case you'll need to use corepure64/grub2-efi to write the bootloader after which core64 (rootfs+modules64+vmlinuz64) will work.

Tested OK on a mac mini and dell e6220

* scm extensions have been dropped from this release

What are the reasons to drop .scm extensions? Is it more of a merging things together, or was the decision taken because of maintenance problems?  ???

Not complaining. I'm just interested to know because I like to have 1x 40Meg extension independent, rather than 200+ tcz each dependant of the rest...

It's easier for me to manage the system that way.

I have to say that the scm extensions are often useful.
For example, are the only way for me to use libreoffice, since tcz version does not work with all versions of java on the repository and that I need to be able to use the version of java most useful for me.
And still, be able to unmount libreoffice when I do not need is a great way to keep free memory.

Or also i remember when scm were the only way to use gtk3.

I understand that this type of package has not been successful between the packagers, but being honest we must also admit that we hasn't made a work of due information on how to create this kind of packets, such as there is nothing on the wiki talk about how to create a scm.

I do not object to this decision, because undoubtedly one type of package less confusing than two, but I also hope that I can continue to use libreoffice without having to boot another distribution.

For the rest, I am very happy that development continues unabated, I hope that with the new xorg can use my touchscreen monitor again and so on!

..or it can be done like this:
Code: [Select]
CC="gcc -flto -fuse-linker-plugin -march=i486 -mtune=i686 -Os -pipe" CXX="g++ -flto -fuse-linker-plugin -march=i486 -mtune=i686 -Os -pipe -fno-exceptions -fno-rtti" ./configure --prefix=/usr/local..which often results in significantly smaller executables and dynamic libs, but significantly larger static libs

Using LTO gain is varying. On mc (Midnight Commander) it is 3.4% on the .tcz

Fwiw, tce-load -i firefox.tcz from inside tce4/optional works and runs just fine under tc5 as long as lipng12.so* are copied from tc4's Xlibs.tcz into /usr/lib.

I use firefox 18.0.

What is about trying libpng.tcz from the 5.x repo and if necessary add a symlink?

Not working, that exact version of libpng is needed.
At the moment I can't reproduce the exact error messages.

Yep the PNG lib changed the API after 1.2.
The only barriers that can stop you are the ones you create yourself.

Hi: I am running the 5 version in same Virtual Box as the 4.7.7
For me it seems 5.0 alpha1boots slower and runs slower than 4.7.7
t(w)o be(ers) or not t(w)o be(ers) that is the question

What does it mean "runs slower"?

Apps ondemand maintenance has incorrect left panel.  Items in right panel also appear in left panel.

One feature of scm that would be great to have with tcz is the ability to install more than one version of a lib/app. Then extensions wouldn't break all the time.

They also won't break if you don't do updates between major releases.
RHEL learned this long ago.
