Remastering question
« on: April 29, 2013, 06:34:59 PM »
For testing pourposes, I spend a lot of time reinstaling Tiny Core.
At every reinstal I have to regain control of my faved apps: Chromium, Rox, etc, etc.
Is there a way to use Ezremaster to create a master copy and reinstall all those packages?
I had achieve to start a live version (Ez-remastered!) with my packages, but when I install to
hardrive the result is an emty (regular) Tiny Core...
Is it possible to make a master ISO that can install my faved packages by default?
Anyone can give me a clue?

Thanks.

Hi uebmaster
Copy the  tce  directory from your system onto a thumb drive. When you do a new install, after booting the system, plug
the thumb drive in and copy the extensions you want to the  tce  directory of the new install. Then use the Apps utility
to place extensions OnBoot or OnDemand.

Thank you Rich for your help...
But I rather prefer a remastering plan, that It will keep my configs and all the stuff on the fly, every time I reinstall...
I'll try EZRemaster with some tricks!
If you know a better way, I appreciate the tip.

I keep reading this thread and feel I have a similar requirement and have used ezremaster.tcz to create a master ISO which can be booted from a cd or USB with all my desired apps installed as you've described.  I use the "apps inside initrd on boot" option to have all your preferred apps loaded after each install and boot, as long as you don't wish to add other apps to the install later.  if it's for testing you can always create a new ISO with updated apps.   ezremaster also has other options

I think if you also add tc-install.tcz to to the list of preferred apps in the ISO it should install the entire contents of the ISO to disk, is that's what you're looking for?

Hello...
Thanks coreplayer2 for your tips.
Certainly I'm missing something important here.

My procedure:
1. Install TC on my hard drive from a USB pen drive;
2. Install some apps I use: Chromium, Rox, etc.
3. I make some configs: change display resolution, put the keybord in my country language, etc.

At this point, I have my ideal tinycore... I wanna save-it in case I need to reinstall-it later.

If I use ezremaster and put all my apps inside initrd on boot, if I put it in a pendrive, I can boot (even in other computer) with all my settings...
But, if I use-it to install in the hard drive, I got the minimal tiny core distribution installed: no configs, no apps, nothing...

Is there a way of install using my remastered ISO and automaticaly had my apps and configs on hard drive?
Sorry guys: I just wanna know if this is possible because I can't get it...  :-[

Thanks in advance.

Just copy the TCE directory from your pen drive to the new drive.

Hi Gerald...
What do you mean by "copy the TCE directory"?
When I boot through USB-Pendrive, I don't have a TCE directory...
At least I can't find one...
There is one at /tmp but I don't think you are refearing to that...
Can you give more details?
Thanks...

Well, if you installed a bunch of apps and want them to be available for new installs, you could have installed them on the pen drive or copied the tce directory from the original hard drive to the pen drive.
Then after a new install you could just copy the tce directory to the new hard drive.
