oh i see. I wonder if they will port Ubuntu onto those new Android 4.1 "quad core 1.8 ghz" credit card size computers at

This would result in a super desktop computer. i feel.

They use the samsung processor chip. Not a Rockchip.

You see, there is already a free APP in the android market that just lets you load ubuntu onto the android computer in one click. I expect that would work. You need the spare micro SD card.

Will It run Ubuntu or other Linux distros? 

Ubuntu 12.10 is installable. But, we need more optimization / configuration for hardware acceleration.
Refer our forum to access the latest Linux distros.

I checked and these quad boards are not as good value as the............... Dual core Rockchip mk808.  ($50) + free ship

These quad boards come to over 130 dollars when all told.........
$69 plus $30 ship  + $13 SDcard with OS  + Power Brick $10 ...plus Hdmi cable...$5 etc

all of that stuff above comes included with the mk808....so

the rockchips are very badly documented but there are indeed 2 people working on some reverse-engineering and kernel-source poker.

We use Transcend 8GB Class 10 for development.

Yet, don't bother to get sdcard with speeds over 25mbytes. The SoC won't handle anything above that.

Having just spent over $500 on vet bill for my cat, all plans to buy something have been put on hold.

Board Won't Turn on
Few steps to follow:
1 - Check your power supply. See if its providing 5V when you turn the board on.
2 - Check your SD Card. Reflash the Image.
3 - Check the eMMC/SD Jumper
4 - DO NOT USE ANY KIND OF SD CARD ADAPTER. mini/micro to fullsize.

Now of interest to me, is for my allwinner attempt I did try sd card adapter so that advice might hold true to all devices?

In other words, if your micro/sd card slot is faulty, your adapter won't work either?

@aus9:  I've had lots of problems both with defective (regular-size) SD card readers and the cards themselves.  There seem to be a lot of fakes on offer out there. I've found that Class 10 cards are more reliable booters than class 4, and forget about class 2.  No read speed differences, just more predictable boot.  I finally bought a Transcend USB reader/writer that has been reasonably reliable in terma of producing usable cards, again on the 'big' SD cards.  Perhaps you could dd an image to your micro card in the device itself via android?  The android terminal apps I looked at were all pretty clumsy, but might work for a wget and dd.

I second that, been there many times.
Except I couldn't resolve whether the faulty part was the mmc-sd card or the usb adapter.
If it's not a problem, could you disclose where you bought your Transcend usb adapter?
