Solved-TinyCore installed on hard drive on a Qemu machine
« on: November 21, 2012, 10:53:32 AM »
Hi all

I am trying to install TinyCore on a virtual machine.
I followed the procedure described here: http://wiki.tinycorelinux.net/wiki:install_hd
and the installation completed successfully. For some reasons after rebooting the machine hangs when trying to boot from hard disk

"Starting SeaBIOS (version 0.5.1.....)
Booting from Hard Disk...
Syslinux 4.05 EDD 0x4f92e181 Copyright (c) 1994......

and it sticks at this step

Any suggestions or recommendations ?

Host OS: Ubuntu Linux 10.2 x64 (I know it is old but I don't think this is the problem here)
Qemu: 0.14.90
CPU model x86_64
HDD size: 100M
HDD type ide but seen as SCSI (/dev/sda) by TinyCore
RAM 48M (rounded up to 50) by Qemu
2 network cards

I am not sure what is the problem, I guess it is the hard drive since with the same params TinyCore booted just fine from the MultiCore CD (BTW if you have time please fix the installation procedure it says multicore but it says nowhere that the iso is found under a different name in the download section)

thanks in advance
PF

You are right at the minimum RAM requirement, and your Qemu might change that.
Try at least 64M.

bingo!

I am using Virt-Manager to create my virtual machines.
It worked after I changed "Machine type" to "KVM". Before I was using "qemu"
This change the drive type to vda and I used the options opt=vda1 home=vda1 norestore

thanks for trying to help gerald_clark
