icecat - update request to actual version
« on: September 07, 2012, 07:58:31 AM »
hi jason,

icecat got the 14.0-version in august.
do you prefer to wait for the next release or do you mind to provide us an updated package?

by the way,
do you know a way to deactivate librejs as a default behavior?
actually i really like these security plugins like noscript, https-everywhere and so on,
but with the activated librejs-plugin so many webpages are just unusable...
... and it's no fun to browse even technical, non-profit, non-commercial pages.

it's a good experience to see how many normal, uncommercial webpages are using non-common script code that could be malicious, but on the other side some of these pages need to be used further...
so it's a good proof of concept, but in my opinion no tool for the everyday use.

thank you for all your contributions.

Hi,
The build fails with the current Firefox and Icecats, they need the kernel headers is once change from older versions, but I have not had time to sort out why the builds are failing now even with the kernel headers installed.  I will give it another go in the near future.

Seems the disabling of urlclassifier is no longer allowed, trying to disable it with deprecated mozconfig options seems to have caused the failed builds.  But at least this paves the way for the future Icecat and other builds.

hi jason,

thanks a lot for your update... i really appreciate it!

by the way, just to inform you:
the path for the config files of icecat is changing over the versions:
~./gnuzilla/icecat
~./mozilla/icecat
~./mozilla/firefox

never mind i just adjust it for me locally :)

could you perhaps help me with that topic:

i was looking for an entry in prefs.js that disables the plugin,
also for ini- or extensions- or other config-files, but i guess it's burried in one of the sql-databases!?

you have to know that i start every tinycore-session with a lean basic set of standarized config-files
without all that sql- and log-files... :) ... that makes my backup really lean and clean.

thank you for every hint and help,
and especially for your packaging of icecat!

Sorry, but I don't know how to disable librejs.  Icecat is a little overly secure for my daily use in general, so I am not familiar with it's full feature set.
