Where to find TCE load logs?
« on: May 02, 2009, 10:23:17 AM »
I still don't have connectivity to my TC2.0rc1 test system (machine is wireless only in its current location), so I've been downloading extensions directly and saving them to my TCE directory, along with any dependencies I find in the documentation.  Most seem to be working fine, but some don't seem to load, as I watch the screen.  It generally goes by too fast for me to catch the errors.  I expect there is some log file that I can look at - if I knew where to look!  This might also have some impact on my other issue (local Wiki saving) that I posted this morning.

The easiest thing I can think of is to open an X terminal and run appbrowser from there.  Whatever output comes from it will be displayed on the term.

Redirecting jwm output to a file will also work, but it's slightly more complicated.

TC doesn't log by default, since that may be very inconvenient for some people with limited RAM.
You can start syslog with the command "sudo syslogd" or with the "syslog" boot option.
The log is written to /var/log/messages
I don't think syslog gives a lot of useful info about extensions, though, except for the fact that you temporarily become root.

Since I'm not running appbrowser (no connectivity) I can't do that.  I guess I'll just wait until I can carry the machine upstairs to my wired connection.  Thanks anyway.

you could always try loading extensions manually from the term:

tce-load nameofextension.tce nameofextension.tcz

One doesn't need to be connected to use the offline features of appbrowser.
