Tinycore website slow
« on: May 29, 2012, 09:14:02 AM »
I find the Tinycore website is slow compared to other websites.

Do others also experience this?
Many people see what is. Some people see what can be, and make a difference.

Hi, Guy
please tell which internet provider you are using.

My experiences are quite different:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/tinycorelinux/welcome.html
is one of the fastest websites to open, sometimes faster and more reliable than google.de itself. (probably depending on the low overhead compared to google)

At home I have DSL 6000 over ARCOR.de and various speed tests give similar results:
speedtest.net:
Down 5800 / Up 560 / ping 25 ms to a selectable host (next to my home),
speed.io:
Down 5800 / Up 570 / ping 30 ms / conn. 2800  to autoselected host
speedmeter.de
Down 5600 / Up 400 / ping 60 ms  to autoselected Server (Telekom, no friend of cable)

Actually I am not at home and so I have to use a WiFi connection of my country hostel, where the speed is very low; my measuring:
speedtest.net
Down   400 / Up  20 / ping 90 to the nearest host selectable at Frankfurt.
Local Wifi is the main throttle that limits the internet speed.

Nevertheless this internet connection gives a fast feeling. Even here my download time for a firefox.tce (tinycore) was about 30 min, not much worse than at home.

Recently I have been installing cable modems in Bavaria that are running with standard speed of 6000 kbips or 32000 kbips or even 100 000 kbips depending on the users contract data, and the measuring proved it to the customers.

If you mean the forum, yeah, it gets slow occasionally. For the static sites you can pick a mirror closer to you, nluug is hugely faster for me than ibiblio for example.
The only barriers that can stop you are the ones you create yourself.
