minitube - problems with the phonon-backend
« on: May 28, 2012, 06:38:52 AM »
hi arlsan,

the update of minitube broke my full working configuration.
when i start minitube on the command line i get:

Code: [Select]
tc@box:~$ minitube
WARNING: bool Phonon::FactoryPrivate::createBackend() phonon backend plugin could not be loaded

acutally i load with a meta-package following programs:
Code: [Select]
minitube.tcz
qt-4.x-base.tcz
qt-4.x-dbus.tcz
qt-4.x-xml.tcz

hi arslan,

i updated the dep-files and checked the dependencies as you recommended.
also i tried all various phonon-backends...
since the update of minitube and all related packages i get still always following reply

Code: [Select]
tc@box:~$ minitube
WARNING: bool Phonon::FactoryPrivate::createBackend() phonon backend plugin could not be loaded
WARNING: bool Phonon::FactoryPrivate::createBackend() phonon backend plugin could not be loaded
WARNING: bool Phonon::FactoryPrivate::createBackend() phonon backend plugin could not be loaded

WARNING: bool Phonon::FactoryPrivate::createBackend() phonon backend plugin could not be loaded
WARNING: Phonon::createPath: Cannot connect  Phonon::MediaObject ( no objectName ) to  VideoWidget ( no objectName ).
WARNING: bool Phonon::FactoryPrivate::createBackend() phonon backend plugin could not be loaded
Xlib:  extension "SYNC" missing on display ":0.0".

minitube is started but i has no sound and no video, just the information of the stream is displayed.
at the same time i get a flawless audio output with audacious or vlc and
vlc displays the video of the url that is provided by minitube.

do you have further ideas?
perhaps the problem is located in the dependency packages that were updated, too.

by the way i use a xvesa environment.
usually i try to keep the configuration lean and clean, but i guess that there is no lean minitube-configuration ;-)

the problem is that phonon plugin dir is not set correctly in phonon 4.6.0
and it is fixed with a simple patch

for now you can use this temporary fix:
Code: [Select]
export QT_PLUGIN_PATH=/usr/local/lib/kde4/plugins
also phonon-backend-mplayer is a good choice because it has no dependency except Mplayer-nodeps ;)

hi arslan,

you are right, the export path solved everything, also your hint for the phonon-backend-mplayer worked fine for me.

is there a way to include the export path in one of the packages!?

in the moment i put it into ~/.ashrc, it's a quick, but a little bit dirty solution...

thank you for your help.

You could put it in the launcher of minitube.
The only barriers that can stop you are the ones you create yourself.

hi friends,

thank you for your replies.
but for all that solutions we need to be aware in case of updates.
we need to be aware that quick and dirty configurations can lead to misfunctions.
then sometimes their origins are not so obviously and can be difficult to be solved...

i prefer patches that are overwritten automatically, when they are not needed anymore.
so for that solution i need to be aware of all these export paths in my .ashrc or
that i use special launchers in my menue, shortcuts or aliases...

hi arslan,

now my minitube configuration runs flawless,
but there is a new behavior in the playlist:
in previous versions minitube started automatically the next media in the list,
now it stays on one media and repeats it again and again in a loop.
i tried several config parameters, but didn't succeed to get the past common manner.

do you have any hint?
thank you in advance.

hi arslan,

i got the message from the mintube-developer that it's no application bug, cause the automatic playlist only works with the gstreamer-framework... mplayer and xine do not provide this feature.

your actual updated phonon-backend-vlc 0.5.0 shows three new bugs:
1. the total time of the media is not shown any more, only the passed time.
2. if i try to go forward in a media file, it skips this file and the next media starts.
3. minitube on the command-line with vlc reports:
Warning: option --plugin-path no longer exists.
[0x88fd5d0] main services discovery error: no suitable services discovery module
[0xa00dcd0] main decoder error: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `h264'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.
[0xa00dcd0] main decoder error: No suitable decoder module
[0xa00dcd0] main decoder error: VLC does not support the audio or video format "h264".
Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this.

thank your for your contributions.

you need to install x264 maybe ? because it is optional to vlc

no, that's not the point, x264 doesn't help.

until friday i had a working lean minitube-mplayer installation, and i could enhance it to a full-working, fat, multimedia minitube-vlc-installation.
now minitube-mplayer still works, but after tce-unload phonon-backend-mplayer and tce-load phonon-backend-vlc the decribed situation occurs:
the mentioned error messages appear, the total time is not showed and there is no video, just sound :(

perhaps the cause for that problem is in one of the other updated packages you have uploaded since friday.
you added some new packages as new dependencies, too.

thank you for every help.

hi arslan,

now i could track the problem:
if i keep the "old versions" of vlc, phonon-backend-vlc, libiconv and so as a dependency the old libavcodec52, everything works fine.
after the update there is no video in minitube with vlc anymore, just sound :(
is it the update of the vlc-framework or more the upgrade to 53 in libavcodec or libavformat?

run vlc from terminal to see missing or broken dependencies
Code: [Select]
vlc -vvv
you can open network streams in vlc just copy and paste the link of any youtube video

file->open network stream

i guess that i understand that...
the upgraded standalone-vlc repeats following error messages:
No suitable decoder module:
VLC does not support the audio or video format "h264". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this.
