TCL 4 update from 4.02 to 4.21 frugal install
« on: February 11, 2012, 03:28:09 PM »
Hi:
Today I tried to update TCL from 4.01 to 4.21. I have a frugal install in a multi boot environment using
the old GRUB1. I boot tce=sda7 home=sda7 and opt=sda7 . My menu.lst file sits in sda3/boot/grub

I thought I just copy the files from the TinyCore 4.21 live cd over to my /boot directory where the vmlinuz and the tinycore.gz are sitting. Then I discovered that tinycore.gz does not exist on the new 4.21? There is also a new folder which has not been in the previous versions. and I copied the core.gz over to /boot and made the changes in menu.lst.

Now my system boots into the command line and I can not get the X working?

Can somebody help me here- Thanks in advance

Please read the release notices.
You also need to have Xlibs, Xprogs, Xvesa, flwm_topside, and wbar onboot.

I notice this question has cropped up a number of times.

Perhaps posting release changes in a README file in the same directory as the distribution files might be a better method of alerting users who upgrade by downloading only the core files.

What's even more confusing is that the upgrade instructions contained in the wiki haven't been updated since 2011-06-16.

HI:
Thank you for your help. Now TCL 4.3 works OK exept:

Only the system icons in the wbar are active. I can not start any application. When I try to start the application leafpad from the terminal window I am getting the following error:

tc@box:~$ leafpad
leafpad: symbol lookup error: /usr/local/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0: undefined symbol: g_datalist_get_data
tc@box:~$

I am getting the same error from firefox and all other apps too.
can somebody please help me?

Have you updated gtk2 but not glib2?
The only barriers that can stop you are the ones you create yourself.
