uncompress vmlinuz to vmlinux
« on: January 19, 2012, 06:04:01 PM »
So, I need help converting the compressed vmlinuz to uncompressed vmlinux. What I read somewhere was to find an the offset and uncompress that. http://superuser.com/questions/298826/how-do-i-uncompress-vmlinuz-to-vmlinux. I was able to find the offset but zcat fails with "invalid magic". Can anybody help?

Hi tweetyhack
Not sure why you would want to do this, but for what it's worth, I took a quick look through the vmlinuz
file. There are some error messages at the end including one that reads  "Not a gzip file", so the
file was probably compressed into a  gzip  format.

Why? Because I am playing with coLinux and apparently, it doesn't know how to work with compressed vmlinux. Thanks for trying Rich. Maybe I'll recompile the kernel and not compress it.

CoLinux requires a special kernel.
