Midori Flash YouTube broken
« on: December 22, 2011, 12:05:02 AM »
On a fresh install of TinyCore, fresh install of Midori and fresh install of Flash 11 I get an error on YouTube that says "An error occurred. Please try again."

I used the getflash10 instructions on the wiki only I used getflash11 instead. Before installing Flash I did start Midori up at least once. I also rebooted after installing Flash.

Other websites using Flash besides YouTube work just fine. It's only YouTube that doesn't work.

I see this thread which says something about a symlink affecting things, but it isn't clear if this affects me: http://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php/topic,5572.msg29529.html#msg29529

Ideas?

Well, I tried all the same steps from scratch only using Chromium as the browser, instead. This improved things so that Flash is now playing video on YouTube from Chromium. However, there is no sound from YouTube or anywhere else. This is an old laptop, so just to check, I booted into another live OS and was able to play an mp3 and hear sound.

Can anyone help on getting sound to work? Thanks!

Which sound system are you using (OSS or alsa)?  I use OSS.tcz myself and I get sound with flash - although I'm still using flash 10 when I load flash at all.

32 bit core4.7.7, Xprogs, Xorg-7.6, wbar, jwm  |  - Testing -
PPR, data persistence through filetool.sh          |  32 bit core 8.0 alpha 1
USB Flash drive, one partition, ext2, grub4dos  | Otherwise similar

Oh dur, I wasn't thinking about the fact that no sound support exists in the base install, but that makes sense actually...I installed OSS.tcz and now I have sound. Thanks a bunch!!

Seems kinda quiet. How do you turn the system volume up, btw?

Hi breakstuff
The  OSS.tcz  package comes with  ossmix, as per the Info tab in AppBrowser:

the command-line mixer, ossmix, works in all systems.

Thanks, Rich! So I installed ossxmix.tcz in an effort to make volume control more convenient. Question though: Where is it? I installed it into OnBoot and rebooted but I don't see it anywhere. I checked in AppsAudit and it's definitely there. How do I use it though?

In case you can't tell, I have no experience setting up sound in Linux as most of my Linux experience is with servers.

Hi breakstuff
Right click on that desktop or the title bar of any window, move the mouse pointer to Applications, and
see if it's in the menu. If it is, click on it, if not, open a terminal and enter  ossxmix

Oh that's right!...[kicks self]...I forgot that something can be installed without necessarily being in the wbar...thanks...[blush]

Wow, that's a lot of controls! Um, stupid question. Which one is like the master control for the chassis speaker?!

Hi breakstuff
Sorry, I don't use OSS. I think it's usually all the way on the left.

Well, it turned out that alsa.tcz and alsamixergui.tcz worked best for me instead of oss. A little more straightforward to use. Thanks for the help here! My sound is much louder and I've got Chrome, Flash 11 and YouTube going so all is well!
