TC audio media center
« on: December 16, 2011, 02:27:02 PM »
I'm starting a home project: to "build" a headless audio center using Tiny Core Linux.
As it's supoused to be headless, control would be done over some kind of remote control (ex. with smartphone, IR remote).

I was planning to use MPD and possibly Ario as front END to play CDs and audio files.

Could anybody suggest me if it would be possible to autoplay CDs when inserted?
Any other suggestions or pieces of adviced will be welcome two.

regards,
Matías

You can look at udev and how it runs rebuildfstab when new discs are found.
If you use mpd you can call the mpd command line client mpc from simple shell scripts to create the functionality you like.
But I'm not sure about the specifics of handling CDs in particular. I suggest buying a cheap CD player for this use case.

Personally I only listen to music from my NAS, and use the betty remote control with mcbetty (http://www.ewetel.net/~horst.raap/) as mpd client.
I also recommend getting an external sound card with better quality and directly using the device without any resampling or other format conversions (this is important for both OSS and alsa).
