In wealthier countries, phone lines have been put in every street a long time ago, and everybody can have a home phone. Internet cables have also been put in most places, and most people can have a cable-connected internet connection.
In poorer countries, which is most of the world, phone lines and internet cables have never been put in most places. In these countries, mobile phone towers have, and are continuing to be built. Most people with enough money can have a mobile phone, and most people with enough money can have a mobile broadband internet connection. A phone connected to a line is not an option, and internet connected to a cable is not an option, for most people in these places.
These countries will never have cable connected phones or internet in most places. Why would anyone put cables down every street, when mobile phone towers several kilometers apart are better?
Mobile broadband will be the only option for most people in most of the world.
Some of us live in counties where we have either option. If you have cable-connected internet, you can have it at home or work, or another location, and you can only use it in that location. Many people will choose to have mobile broadband, so they can use it anywhere any time.
There are many different providers, and many different deals, but if you have cable-connected internet you often need to pay to get it connected, and have a two year contract. If you move to another address in less than two years, you have to pay a huge penalty.
With mobile broadband, you can buy a prepaid modem quite inexpensively, buy a sim card quite inexpensively, then get a plan where you pay by the month, with no contract. If you change address, you can take it with you. If you want to disconnect, there is no penalty.
For these reasons, in the future, I believe more people will have mobile broadband internet connections, than any other kind of internet connection.
