bad quality sound with OSS

Hi,

I installed TC on my hard drive. to get sound working I installed OSS.tcr.
I can now hear sound but the quality is very poor. Everything sounds like frying.
Could you suggest a soluion?

could it be just bad connections of wires?   plugs dirty etc?

i use oss and i never have any problems. My soundcard is plugged into
the laptop and is a USB soundcard.

You could always remove OSS and try the ALSA sound driver instead.

THe instructions for getting ALSA working are on the tinycore wiki page.

It  can sometimes be a little tricky to get ALSA working correctly.

Hi,
I am still having this problem. Something strange happened, once with OSS the noise disappeared and the quality of the sound was perfect. I don't know why and i did not manage to reproduce it!

I also tried to install alsa, but i can't uninstall OSS. When I mark OSS for deletion on apps audit, it says that OSS cannot be deleted. Do you know why?

I also noticed that I get some errors at boot. Is there a log somewhere? Apparently I am mising ali15x3, can this be the cause?

oh. It looks like "ali" is some kind low level drv library file.

you can BOOT without OSS....just use the bootcode "BASE"

This new boot of tcl will be virgin. You can then try ALsa
driver for sound.

It is funny because sound and video...real rudimentary for
a computer ...but sometimes it does not always work out
of the box. (OSS is suppossed to exactly work right out of
the box)

Ok, alsa works well. I only have a problem of persistence, i.e. i need to run alsaconfig at every reboot.
I have persistent /home and /opt. What files do i need to backup to get the configuration of alsa persistent?
