« on: November 19, 2011, 05:27:22 PM »
Hello

is it ok to run tcl 3.7.1

This laptop is not preforming too well with tcl 4.0.2 so is it
worth trying 3.7.1?

thx

V.

Why would you consider TC 3.7.1 when the last release in the TC 3.x series is 3.8.4?

sorry markus

i left Tinycore alone for a long while...maybe a month...

the bottom line was this compaq laptop here is a bit of a dog...it certainly
is not up to much with Linux...

it seems to prefer win32...(winXP PRO) ....ye..infact it performs much better
than Linux.....maybe 8 browser tabs at the same time...no problem with
video's caching...youtube's...facebooks...

don't ask me why because i don't know....but when you see a laptop
with those stickers on  "built for winXP" then i imagine this is somehow
linked to win32 driver libraries and maybe a whole host of system registry
and config settings..... for the hardware...

having said that...it's a 10 year old laptop...there was NO driver for the
audio chip.....so used an external USB soundcard....

i have come to terms with this laptop....it's bothered me for...well...ever
but that's life...

i can't afford new laptops....but there are plenty on ebay....

so...i just returned to see what was happening with Tinycore...

thx

Vince.

FWIW, some versions of Puppy Linux claim to work well with older hardware:

I'm not at all sure that TCL ever had that as a main goal. Because of its small size it can be used on machines with limited memory, but drivers and whatnot are a different issue. I've never been involved in development so I don't really know though.
