[SOLVED] How to install TC on USB drive?
« on: October 13, 2011, 06:01:15 PM »
Very funny, that after reading the wiki and installation guide, I'm still not able to install TC on my usb...
The thing is I use DSL modem to connect, and to setup the connection to download the needed dosfstools and syslinux I need to edit the resolf.conf chap and pap, options all under root I presume, and what is the the root password then?)

Maybe there is another workaround for this, but I haven't found one so far.
It is quite obvious that the majority of users would try to use TC on usb stick first, and not having a decent on-board usb-installer is not convenient.

TC does not have a 'root' password defined, but you could always use 'sudo su' as the default user to get you to a 'root' shell (or 'sudo CMD ARGS ...' for individual commands).

I use universal usb installer (free) from pendrivelinux to install it.
This uses syslinux to boot it. Select "try unlisted  linux ISO (new syslinux)" and pick the tinycore iso file and you are ready to usb-boot in a minute.

FYI. MultiCore includes all the installation tools required with easy USB installation providing proper tce directory structure and UUID booting. Using third party tools means manual setup.
