« on: October 09, 2011, 01:13:36 PM »
hi

can you help me get my laptop soundchip working with alsa in TCL 4

0) i boot into a fresh TCL 4.
1) i do not set a place for the /tce directory.
2) i load ALSA 3.0 modules.tcz.....from the app store
3) I load ALSA.tcz "   "   "
4) i load ALSACONF.tcz "    "     "

when i open a terminal and go  "sudo alsaconf"

it says that the /usr directory does not exist....and fails.

thanks

Hi,I think alsa now needs depmod I have alsa working on two machines with TC4.1 and think that was only one of my problems,I run alsamixer first,am presented with graphic panel, arrow up to increase the left hand volume column to 100 check that there is not an "mm" at the bottom if so press m to unmute,do the same to PCM. Press escape, type sudo  alsactl store which creates etc/asound.state. add asound.state to .filetool.lst.Add alsactl restore to bootlocal.sh and the settings should persist.Hope this helps.

hi

it's not clear here.

My TCL 4.0.1 install is on a USB stick. The laptop boots from that stick
and the laptop does not contain a hard drive. The stick also contains a swap partition.

All i know is that alsa does not work as it once did....i do the alsa procedure
as mentioned earlier here.... which SHOULD make alsa work on any laptop....but it does
not work on this machine.

If i follow my alsa procedure on a different laptop that is booted from TCL 4.0.1 CD disc
....alsa works correctly.

hmmm?

i have not tried any of the stuff you mentioned.....because i already know that the alsa methods
i follow are the correct ones to follow.....and should work on any PC
...... they work correctly if followed on a different laptop.

Therefor, the issue here is either

1) This particular laptop

OR

2) The fact that TCL 4.0.1 is booted from a pen drive and not from CD  ( i have seen other alsa complaints about TCL 4 on pen)

Did you have alsaconf loaded when you tried to get alsa going?

hello

Yes

I did stuff as per the OP of this thread. It's the Same stuff that has worked
for alsa all along....but does not work in this situation now on this particular
laptop...

i seem to recall another comment here about a thumb drive TCL 4.0.1 user
having problems with alsa also...

oh hold on JuaNTO...

you may be right....i downloaded the alsa extensions and alsaconf....but they
were not loaded....(not in any onboot....situation)

maybe i then only loaded alsa 3.0 modules and alsa....but not alsaconf...

hmmmm

thanks

/usr/local/etc/init.d/alsasound start reports snd-hda-intel. Mixer settings are OK, kernel modules loaded, but no sound, /opt/alsa/.alsadriver empty as well as /etc/modprobe.conf

alsaconf do not find any sound card

TC 3.8.4 works fine as expected on the same notebook, alsaconf founds the Intel HDA card.

All together no sound with TC4.

Copying over /etc/modprobe.conf and /opt/alsa from 3.8.4 to 4.0 (possibly modprobe would be enough) ALSA sound system starts fine after reboot. Only issue is that /etc/asound.state is not restored by default and starts Master volume 0%. Adding 'alsactl restore' to /opt/bootlocal.sh now it starts correctly.
