1. During shut down or when running backup from the Control Panel  we often receive an unnecessary error when there is nothing to back up or the file does not exist.    Various errors are given but the two awkward issues are either nothing to backup (ie an empty archive) due to removal of items in the filetool list or the MyData file has been deleted or never created..

I'm assuming that the Backup/Restore function uses a different script to running "filetool.sh -b"?   Because running Backup from the Control panel will always produce the same annoying error.   It looks like it calls the same script as the shutdown feature, which doesn't make a lot of sense considering the Control Panel would logically provide administrative controlling features (but doesn't)

Only the command "filetool.sh -b" from a terminal window will create a new MyData.tgz file.   I think it's more logical that the File Tool from the Control Panel accomplish this simple task

2.  Additionally, the backup fails when run from the CP or shutdown menu if the archive is empty,  which then requires many steps to shutdown in this situation.

You can use "norestore" in the bootloader, so backup will not run.

Thanks, yes you can but i think that misses the point, as it is definitely required.  just if you have to make a new MyData file only the "filetool.sh -b" will accomplish the task (at least on older versions ie up to 3.7.1)   will try 3.8.1 now
