Kernel 3.0
« on: July 26, 2011, 08:20:07 AM »
Hi!

I'm just wondering if there are any long term plans to update the core in TinyCore? I've been messing around with the latest release of Finnix that is based upon the 3.0 Linux Core and to me it has been a positive experience. If there are no plans of updating the core, is there a way that I might try it out myself or wouldn't any of the software packages in the repo work with such a TC-remaster!

Have fun with TC and thanks in advance for any hints,
meo

Just an interesting part of the announcement:

Hi bmarkus!

Does your comment mean that the Finnix kernel could be used with TC?  :)

Have fun and keep up your good work,

I don't make the decisions, but I expect tinycore will update to the latest kernel when tinycore version 4.x is released.
Many people see what is. Some people see what can be, and make a difference.

It was already stated by Curaga, with no ETA. However I'm sure that he is already cooking it :)

Hi again Y'all!

I just didn't understand your comment bmarkus; you are way ahead of me because I'm just a selflearned enthusiast when it comes to building an OS. It sounds very exciting to hear that a new kernel may be cooking already!  ;D

Have fun whichever way you like to use it,

Interesting observation meo, as the very first Tiny Core I built by bootstrapping from Finnix April, 9, 2008.

Tiny Core v4.0 will have an updated kernel. Typically we wait for the first round of kernel patches.

Hi again!

Noticed that a similar thread exists already in the forum so please accept my apologize!  :-[ The thing is that I haven't been checking the forum so regularly since I at first couldn't get TC to work at the native resolution on my netbook.  Robert: That was just what I remembered, that TC was based on the Finnix kernel. Nice to hear that a new kernel is scheduled to be introduced in TC.  :)

Have fun and continue the appreciated development of TC,

meo, slight correction. Tiny Core was prototyped (proof of concept)  using the Finnix kernel. During initial non-publc development our own kernel was development. And when Tiny Core was released in Dec 2008 there was no further use of Finnix kernel or modules.  I still hold Finnix in very high regard.

Hi Robert!

Thanks for the information! I knew there was something involving Finnix but not exactly what. Now I think I got the picture.

Have fun with the further development of TC,
