Tinycore rc.shutdown script
« on: July 03, 2011, 09:19:47 PM »
At the end of the /etc/init.d/rc.shutdown script is a call to the "usleep_progress" function which has the system sleep for 2 seconds.   Is there practical need for a delay here, or could it be removed for a faster shutdown?

Also, are the 1 second sleeps needed between the calls to sync?   sync doesn't return until the sync has been completed, so I'm wondering if the sleeps could be safely removed.

Thanks,
Brian

OK. I will revisit rc.shutdown for v3.8 rc testing.

Hi

Not sure if this is connected to any changes you have done but for me 3.8 has started hanging on shutdown. Not all the time. Sometimes this is just a very slow 20 second shutdown and sometimes having to physically poweroff. This was not a problem in 3.6 - I skipped 3.7!! Let me know if there is anything I can check and post to help.

Cheers

Can you provide some additional information such as what is displayed on the screen when it hangs?

Hi

Not very useful I'm afraid. Problem is not consistent. It usually seems to hang on the Logout optionbox for longer than normal, wbar will quit, mouse freezes and then if I lucky it will eventually shutdown, If not it hangs on an empty desktop with a frozen mouse. Running sudo poweroff seems to work without this problem.

Is this any use?

Are you doing a backup at shutdown?   If so, how big is your backup file?
