Does TC support 1366x768 resolution
« on: October 01, 2009, 02:29:58 PM »
Hi all!

Well, the subject line reveals my question but I'll ask anyway: Does tinycore support or can be made to work with 1366x768 resolution? Any hints and answers are very welcome and will be appreciated.

Have fun with this remarkable distro,
meo

EDIT  I'm mainly thinking of the soon to be released eeepc with the Ion graphic processor.

Thanks Juanito!

Thank you for your interest i helping me out on this. This resolution is coming strong among laptops now so I think that it would be of interest for the community to know how to get tinycore working with the 1366x768 resolution.

Have fun extending the functions of tinycore,
meo

Xorg has no issues with the resolution. The ION chip on the other hand, I'm not sure if nv still supports it. It might need the Nvidia binary driver to work properly.

Have fun with TC,

you might have to do some configuring to Xorg but thats not a hard thing to do.  Xorg is pretty capable when it comes to screen resolutions.
unzip; strip; touch; finger; mount; fsck; more; yes; unmount; sleep  - my daily unix command list

I have an attached screen with 1600x900... I had to edit xorg.conf to set the specific resolution.

got it without difficulties with an ati chip (don't know the exact description because i am not in front of my usual machine) by simply editing .xsession and type the correct resolution (using xvesa, not xorg)

Hi!

I have posted this question since I'm looking for a replacement of my almost 9 years old laptop. It seems that it will be going down pretty soon. For some reason many laptops have this (1366x768) resolution now. In other words I want to be sure that I can run tinycore linux on whatever laptop I choose. Thinking of how nice tinycore works on this old laptop it must be like a greased lightning on a new one. Thanks all for your interest in the matter!

Have fun running tinycore,
meo

PS  Alu I would be interested in knowing your .xsession content  DS

im going to go out on a limb and anyone is free to correct me but yes.  with the proper configuration to your Xorg.conf or your .xsession it will work fine.

Short answer:

If your video bios has the resolution, Xvesa supports it. If not, Xorg supports it anyway.
The only barriers that can stop you are the ones you create yourself.
