Frugal Install into eMMC
« on: September 24, 2019, 10:38:16 AM »
Hello,

I'm trying to install the tiny core distro into a computer which contains only a eMMC.
I tried the procedure described on "Frugal Install Tiny Core Linux" and I'm getting an error to setup the grub.
I can't use the grub command "root (hd0,0)" because the computer doesn't have a hard drive (only has the /dev/mmcblk0) so I would like to know if there is another way to install the grub or if I should use the grub version 2 instead?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Hi aj
Maybe try using  tab completion  to see if grub makes any suggestions. Enter  root  and then hit the  Tab  key once or twice.

If your  eMMC is a Chromebook, take a look here,
https://mrchromebox.tech/

I used the tips found there to install MX Linux to a Toshiba Chromebook that I got/bought pre used.
AMD, ARM, & Intel.

The grub root command only detects de hd0 but this is the usb-stick used to install the OS.
Thanks

I'm trying to install the OS in a compact computer module (COM Express Mini type).

I did some tests but the problem persists.
The grub version "grub-0.97-splash.tcz" cannot detect the computer eMMC.
This is a known issue or what could be the cause?
