skype errors
« on: May 18, 2009, 08:27:12 PM »
..maybe not the correct part of the forum, but

I've been trying to get skype dynamic (skype-2.0.0.72.tar.bz2) to work on tc_2.x, so far without success. For the sake of troubleshooting, I started it without any deps loaded and then loaded the deps one by one as the various error messages asked for them, finally I arrive at:
Code: [Select]
$ skype
QIconvCodec::convertFromUnicode: using ASCII for conversion, iconv_open failed
QIconvCodec::convertToUnicode: using ASCII for conversion, iconv_open failed
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Skype 2.0.0.72

Loading the gettext, intltool, perl_xml and libiconv extensions doesn't help...

Has anybody had any better luck than this?

Yeah...I tried the dynamic binary and those for various distros....all ended with the error listed in the Skype thread.
As posted, I have an older version working (that I couldn't post), although for some reason even that's not letting me log in lately.  The posted window's version works with wine.  The problem is only with tc2....other than that, it's just adding the right libraries

google turns up a few posts on the error, like this one:

I'll have a look at it when I get time...

The xlib error comes up with Firefox also, but doesn't seem to affect anything (although it doesn't happen in tc1)

After getting skype to load, the error to worry about is:

Code: [Select]
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'unsigned int'
terminate called recursively
Aborted

This happens after login on all linux versions.

 https://developer.skype.com/jira/browse/SCL-353%3Bjsessionid=2D79FDADCA0A5D5592200EFCC93185EE?page=history

I think skype just changed their security recently, since my skype-1.2.0.18 build worked fine until about May 5th. Now I get an "incorrect login" error.  Skype 2.0 no longer works on Puppy either, although there's no problem on TC1.

Does this mean that the skype* extensions in should be removed? (for TC 2.x)

There appears to be some conflict with the updated libs in tc2;  works fine with tc1. (for tc2, wine with windows version works, as posted).

They have been removed from the 2.x repository for now.

1.3.0.53 works

Where do I find it? I see only 2.x available for download and other sites are referring to the official skype.com where old versions are available if you sign an NDA with them

In fact, best would be to get 2.0 up.

forget it, i have found an alternative:

https://imo.im

free web messaging with integration of skype contact and messaging functionalities; coupled with tokbox, you get rid of skype; only thinks needed: flash (last version), which we have in tc.
