intel 3945abg
« on: May 12, 2009, 10:40:16 AM »
Hello All,

Great distro, been a fan of that "small" one as well. Would someone point me in the right direction to get my intel 3945 wireless adapter working in TC?

This is what i have done so far. - installed wireless tools.
iwconfig shows wlan0 but iwlist does not show any networks.
ifconfig shows wlan0 as well.
not sure if additional drivers/firmware are needed.

THIS IS THE BEST DISTRO EVER!!!!!!

Hi Roberts,
so right know it is 2:00 am and it is not working. I downloaded and installed the firmware 2.6.29.1 and the tools,
but have no idea, how to activate it .. and i searched the forum, believe me. But without Unix knowledge, it is not so easy.. Perhaps you have a short briefing for me and i will try it tomorrow... and hopefully my wife will let me  ;)
Good night
Michael

The Intel wireless firmware needs to be downloaded from Intel:

Help. I am stuck on this.  Can't get my intel 345abg card to work with Tiny Core.
I have the firmware in my /lib/firmware folder (even tried version 1 of the firmware).
I have installed the:

 firmware-2.6.29.1-tinycore.tce
wireless-2.6.29.1-tinycore.tcem
 wireless_tools.tcel

When I run, iwconfig, my wireless is correctly identified as wlan0.
When I run iwlist scanning, the system reports that wlan0 is down.
When I run ifconfig wlan0 up, I get SIOCSifflags: No such file or directory.

The  3945 card works fine on other distro's (SLAX) so I am certain it is not a hardware problem.

I must be missing something. Any ideas.

Thanks.

This is probably because it cannot find the firmware, I had the same problem.
Do a "dmesg" and look what it says there about missing firmware.

What I did was to make a remaster and putting the firmware in /lib/firmware/. I took the newest firmware! That worked.

Thanks, fladd. You are correct. I did a dmesg and not finding the fw was the problem. I put the latest fw in /lib/firmware rather than in yet another subdirectory. Worked like a champ.

Thanks again. This distro is so cool I want to get it right and spread it among my friends.

Best regards,
