What is the 'official' way to check available version online in an application?

I think what bmarkus wants to do is get the current version number from ibiblio from a non Linux
environment.

Can be done on WINDOWS embedded in a WINDOWS application, like core2usb.exe ?

Problem solved checking available ISO's at the ibiblio download area.
