Toasty Browser
« on: April 07, 2026, 02:06:08 PM »
Hi, I'm trying out tc 6.12.11on a Acer zg5 netbook (atom, 1.5g ram, bootable usb, no hdd).  I like it a lot.  But I'm having problems getting a browser that can load more than dillo to work. I found Toasty Browser & it seems to load the tcz ok but when I try to run it I get no window.  It shows up as running in Top.  Can anyone help please?  I also loaded flit hoping to get a battery monitor but that pops up a tiny window on first run for a few seconds & then disappears but is also shown running in Top.  Dunno if that helps at all

Hi humblebee
Welcome to the forum.

I don't see  "Toasty Browser"  anywhere in our repositories.

a quick web search turned up this webpage which claims to offer it for tinycore

https://toasty-browser.sourceforge.io/

didn't go any further than that page.

Hi humblebee
Did you also download  toasty.tcz.dep  which contains:
Code: [Select]
gtk2.tcz
dbus-glib.tcz
Did you also install  gtk2.tcz  and  dbus-glib.tcz?

If you use Atom N270 cpu, you can use 32-bit firefox.
http://tinycorelinux.net/17.x/x86/tcz/firefox-ESR.tcz

Toasty browser is for flinux not tinycorelinux, flinux is a fork of tinycorelinux.

Flinux 16 use tinycorelinux repos.
Flinux 17 use its own repo.
https://flinux.loc-os.com/17.x/x86/tcz/toasty.tcz

I tried to test Flinux 17, but get error when I tried to install Xversa:
Code: [Select]
wget can't execute "openssl"
flint may not work with all window managers.

Hey, thanks for the replies.  So if Toasty won't work on tc, what's my best bet for a browser? I only see chromium in the repo but it doesn't seem to work.

Hi humblebee
Did you also download  toasty.tcz.dep  which contains:
Code: [Select]
gtk2.tcz
dbus-glib.tcz
Did you also install  gtk2.tcz  and  dbus-glib.tcz?

Thanks, no the toasty website only has toasty.tcz available

Thanks, I guess that explains why it doesn't work... Shame the toasty website doesn't make that clear.  Oh well.

It's there:
https://flinux.loc-os.com/17.x/x86/tcz/toasty.tcz.dep

You could try running "toasty" from a terminal window to see if it shows any errors there.

I tested toasty.tcz in tc14.x86-32 and it works, but looks like it's very buggy. Not all websites works. Did you tried vivaldi.tcz?

Hi, yes I've just got that working thanks.  I was hoping to try something other than the normal browsers just for the experience so if I have time I'll try the suggestions suggested 🙂

Hi, I can't remember if I tried Vivaldi, I have tried epiphany & the one that's a guy's name which I forget, but they both didn't work.  I've got Firefox working but I will try Vivaldi, thanks
