Is it possible to compile TCL as the older ASCII encoding?

I am trying to simplify the entire codebase even more for an operating system class.

Right now the fonts have over a million possibilities under this system.

By default, TC uses the C locale, which means ASCII. For various fonts, if they include glyphs you don't need, you can subset them. Which tool can do that depends on the font format.
