As the hundreds of endnotes attest, this book builds on the work and ideas of many people. In particular, throughout the text there are quotations taken from interviews conducted for the Walled Culture blog about copyright(1) by Gwen Franck and Karlin Lillington: my thanks to them for their work. It also draws on my own writings in other forums, notably Walled Culture(2), the Copybuzz(3) blog, and the indispensable Techdirt(4), still the best place to stay abreast of the latest developments in copyright and much else.
In terms of the present text, I am grateful to many invaluable suggestions at all stages of its production from Caroline De Cock and Herman Rucic. Thanks are also due to Carol King for editing the text with her customary speed and professionalism, and to Fred von Lohmann for his important comments on key aspects of the book.
