Finally my sanity is given a break!  SearchMonkey IS SO EASY TO USE this little app transformed my experience,   precompiled, just dropped it into the install and ran it, configured the file associations to open any file with the app of choice. it's lightweight (my copy is 204kb uncompressed) and fast :)

I borrowed it from another distro  although the source online is here searchmonkey (http://searchmonkey.embeddediq.com)
