Linux writes

Quote
It will get released close enough to the 20-year mark

oh my math is ticking hard. 2011 - 20 years = 1991.

Hey I remember when I sat along with our software Guru at the Local Computer Club say 1989 and him used a UNIX while all the rest on us used IBM-PC with Ms DOS ? Maybe win 3.3 or was that later?

Anyway what I wanted to share with you was my admiration for his skills in getting UNIX to do almost anything with a few key strokes on the keyboard and writing on a CLI line while us used Directory Control or Northon Commander or similar.

Wish I had understood how important Linux would become already then so I had spent more time on it. :)

20 lost years for me using Windows

oh and a last word.

Linus T. made his kernel as a comment to Minix.

Apart from UNIX and Linux there is nothing else AFAIK. None has been able to make something practical on that level? He is unique in that way is he not?

But without UNIX and Minix him had not got that motivation would he?

To be quite fair, there were a few BSD Unices around.
BSD/386 was also released in 1991.
