I wanted to run TCL on a computer that has Atheros NIC and wireless chipsets.
I couldn't connect to the repositories from this computer (using TCL 3.7 rc1)
and found no way to download the files when running another linux distribution.
Eventually, I carried a desktop system to the room with the ethernet connection
and downloaded the wicd programs and then copied these to a flash drive.
Thankfully, I was then able to install these within TCL on the target computer and then able to connect wirelessly.
It seems there should be a way to download apps from the repositories from another distribution to enable using the local mode.
Have I missed a simpler approach?
thanks.

There is a script that will download apps from any distro, or from within Cygwin on Windows:'

However, the starter packs that are supported beginning with 3.7 are for the main purpose of getting network connectivity to make use of the appbrowser.:

And the starter packs effectively remove the need for downloading apps from another distro, so the above script is now going to be unmaintained but kept up for code reference.
