Title: Is TC a good distro for this...
Post by: new2tc on February 24, 2011, 12:49:05 PM: Hi guys. I am a big fan of Robert's work from his DSL days. Awesome distro.

Anyway I am having a problem because I don't have any Windows or 32 bit Linux machines at the moment and I need skype. I tried various Winbloze under VBox and the mic input doesn't work. I have a 10 year old laptop with 512M of RAM, fast Celeron processor and a dead HD. Can I use TC to [easily] to setup a diskless machine just to run skype? Thanks for the help.

I do not know from the repository but from the officiale site just download and unzip the statically compiled version.

Another option to consider is to run it from cd.

You could start by installing Tiny Core on a cd. After connecting to the internet, install the apps you want.

If that works, you may want to make a new cd containing the apps you use.

If it has a USB port you can leave the CD as is and save your apps to a pendrive. That's
how I run one of my laptops.

It doesn't have to boot from USB. Stick a pendrive in the USB port, boot from the CD,
and save your apps to the pendrive, unless of course you enjoy making coasters.

By default TC runs in a tmpfs with size 90% of RAM.

Post by: Tangedevojke on July 20, 2011, 06:33:22 AM: Try Puppy. Its light, but has a nice feature set, and isnt as spartan as DSL. You shouldnt need a special "flash" install distro. AFAIK, theyll all install, and the media is irrelevant.
