Does anyone have instructions on how to compile TC myself from source? I would like to use this as a learning experience.

See the download page for the location of the sources.
There are many pages on compiling kernels that can be found using google.

If you want to learn how to compile software, I would suggest a less ambitious project.

I'd suggest reading "linux from scratch" before doing anything
