Title: Alt key and xorg.
Post by: 4-stroke on March 09, 2010, 11:52:31 AM
This might not be a problem just for netbooks but since I have it on my eeepc I guess I can post it here.

I've searched and this problem has been asked a couple of times but with no real solution.

The alt key isn't working in flwm with xorg. It works in Arora and other programs but I can't close a window with alt+del or change with alt+tab.

I've tried with and without xorg.conf.

If you are not committed to xorg, I can confirm that xvesa works with the alt key as expected.

Thanks, but none of them work due to the alt key not being recognized. :-[

My po... I mean, my documents look better in xorg. ;D

Oh well. I had to give in and remove xorg since I don't like to use the touchpad too much.
Funnily, everything seems to run better with vesa... :-\
Maybe I'm just imagining things.

If you have an alps or synaptics touchpad/pointing stick combo, you can disable the touchpad part of things in both Xorg and Xvesa

I can't disable it completely since I need it for browsing. The access keys feature in Arora would solve this but it seems to be disabled. I can't get it to work.

lol, I had a similar feeling when same symptom first time occurred to me with jwm(-snapshot) and Xorg. Restarting the wm seems to be a quick fix  though ;)
So far couldn't pinpoint what is triggering it...   ???

Whatever caused this bug seems to be gone in 7.5.

Is there any known way to update/replace Xorg from 7.4 to 7.5 for TC 2.x ?  ???

UPDATE:
This bug appears not to be exclusive to the Alt key, but more generally to wm key bindings.

e.g.: I have added '<Key key="F12">root:1</Key>' to ~/.jwmrc-keys, in order to get the
root menu with a single keystroke. Whenever Alt+X key bindings would cease to function,
same happens to F12.

No, it's only supported on 3.x.
