Title: Small Suggestion for AppBrowser
Post by: baz on February 25, 2010, 03:15:56 PM
The file > connect paradigm is not overly intuitive for new users. As a suggestion, why not also place a prominent "Connect" button in the empty space where the apps would be displayed. Once they are connected, the button would disappear and be replaced by the list of apps.

There root problem is that "Connect", "Install Local" and "Quit" are in the single "File" menu. Renaming "File" to "Command" or "Action" would help.

That would definitely help. Or perhaps just have "Connect", "Install Local" and "Quit" next to each other and not in a menu at all - there is definitely enough room for it. With "Connect" being at the very top-left, it sends the message that "THIS IS IMPORTANT AND GOOD TO USE, TRY IT!"

Might also be good to be able to save or copy the info in the browser to local file for setup & later use.

"not too late is it, even now..."

With only one active control option "File" and, I thought "File" was ubiquitous therefore it would be obvious.
Anyway, I changed "File" to "Action" in the next cut.

Side note: most GUI applications I've seen that have the standard menu bar, also come with something like the File... Quit, etc. scenario.  So this might throw off some experienced users by a little bit at first ;)
