Simply question,
It's good that TCL is continually progressing but it does mean I seem to have to do a reinstall to HDD every month or so and download new tcz.
So, is it okay to just copy over the new bzimage and tinycore.gz files when a new version is released and leave the tce, home/tc and mydata.tgz alone?
I appreciate that there may be major changes occasionally like changes to the tcz's recently but will not an Update fix this?

Go to:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/tinycorelinux/2.x/release/distribution_files/
Download the latest tinycore.gz and bzImage.
Replace the current tinycore.gz and bzImage in your boot folder.
Reboot.
At least, this is what I've done going from 2.4->2.5->2.6->2.7. It's a good idea to make sure to run tce-update first, and make sure you've got the latest tcz's.
There might be a better way, but so far this hasn't caused me any problems.

Also, you may need to check the release notes (under news) to replace certain files depending on your setup (ie if they're backed up)

With updates to some versions, you can just replace tinycore.gz and bzImage.
With updates to other versions, other files are also changed.
As mentioned, check the release notes with each version, to see what files, if any, are changed.
If you are not sure, another option is to delete personal settings when you update.
Save a copy of all files you don't want to lose from /home/tc.
If you use persistent home, delete /home/tc.
If you use persistent /opt, delete /opt.
If you use backup, delete mydata.tgz (normally in the tce directory).
After doing this, when you start the new version of Tiny Core, it will be the same as a new installation.
