Your install isn't permanent! Probably because you didn't follow strictly the official Installagion Guide (http://www.tinycorelinux.com/install.html). See below

If this guide doesn't work in VMplayer (VMware) try Sun's Virtual Box (http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads).
Using Virtual Box the official Installation Guide works fine (http://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php?topic=4344.msg22857#msg22857) and to my opinion Virtual Box is better than VMplayer as there is the ready made VBox-OSE-additions.tcz extension creating all that stuff which needs complicated scripting in VMware.

Do you get the Grub bootloader when you reboot? If not, you may be (unwittingly) rebooting from the ISO image every time. East to do if you mapped the VMWare DVD drive to a local ISO and forgot to "turn it off" or map it back to the physical drive.
Also note that VMWare will create SCSI drives by default. You need to use the advanced setup to create an IDE disk. If your root shell command:
fdisk -l
shows nothing, this may be the reason.

The current version of Tinycore is 2.11.5.

gerald, I could install tc in my vmware server machine.
If necesary download the tce vm-drivers in your version 2.x, and grub, too.
I wrote a little shell installer, what do all for you, to install in your virtual HD. if you need the script, let me know, and then , I 'll see how can I help you.
