I got the impression the count of 'Total Posts'
isn't counting posts but visits.

This bug can be reproduced with following steps:
1. click 'home'
2. remember the total and the time of the last post
3. visit a posting
4. click 'home' again and the total has increased by 1
even if the last post didn't change.
I think it's misleading to publish more than 20,000 postings when these postings seem to be visits only.

Don't worry: it's probably not a bug, and it is not the number of visits, and is not reproducible. It counts all posts, such as hidden ones.

Seems like there's something odd about the member count, too.
The index page lists 1027 members. The most recent one is StXh, member number 1035. Maybe eight members were removed from the list... but the Members List page only lists 1022 members.
I was curious to see if the member count would hit 1000 by the end of December 1st. It didn't quite make it.

Similar things apply to member counts. Also not a bug.

It happenes also on my SMF forum. Solution is to use ADMIN/FORUM MAINTENANCE functions which fix it:
Recount all forum totals and statistics. and Find and repair any errors.

User ID is a sequence number. It shows deleted users

Just for curiosity, do you have a link to your forum? Is it in English?

Hungarian. I have TinyPortal installed, so it looks a bit different:
