Title: We need a step by step ALSA sound HOW TO

Hi i am a newbe
i need to install sound in my microcore
i read http://wiki.tinycorelinux.com/tiki-index.php?page=Setting+up+Sound
but dont have to much information

i and the micro & tiny comunity need a step by step sound how to

my machine dont have internet access
tell me wich files i need to donload from here
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/tinycorelinux/2.x/tce/src/
ant then copy  to the hd
and which directory (tc o tclocal) and bootcode use the tce or the tclocal
i want to use the 4 mode installed and mounted

 and no X,  just only work in console mode

also need to intall the mpg123alsa program

u can uso alsa or oss.
download one of this 2 packages and also wath's written in the .dep.
Same story for mpg123.
Sound should be autconfigured

copy this 4 files in the tce dir that u created in the root of one of your partitions.

I don't see why u need to use a PPI

this night i wil try the oss and mpg123

i dont realy understand the diferences betwen ppr an ppi 
my idea is that  if dont have internet acces then i need to install
the extension and also the boot time is more faster

the next question is wich boot param need
tce=hdxy or tclocal=hdxy
or the two thogeter

Use one or the other, not both together.

I suggest tce=hdxy

If you use tce=hdxy, the program files are installed read only - they cannot be modified, so they cannot become corrupted. You can save settings, but the original files cannot be changed. Tiny Core will always start in a pristine state.

If you use tclocal=hdxy, program files are installed the same way as most ordinary operating systems. The original files can be modified, so there is a possibility they may become corrupted.

Create a directory called /tce.

Download extensions you want to use, you must also download dependencies, and copy them to the tce directory.

There are a few programs which may need the .dep files to load properly. These ensure dependencies are loaded in the correct order. So also download the .dep files and copy them to the /tce directory.


Having said that, Tiny Core may start a little faster if you use tclocal=hdxy. I don't use this method, because I like to ensure files don't become corrupted. Some others use this method.

Updating to newer versions of programs is also easier if you use tce=hdxy. If you have an interned connection, you can just run Update Extensions. If you don't, you can just delete the old extensions and replace them with the new extensions.

Thanks I create the /tce directory and put the files that you tell me
and work ok

now i am using both param tce=hdxy  and the local=hdxy
there is an error to use both

to see what there inside in my Debian i  try to mount the OSS.tczm but the mount command give irreconocible "squashfs"file system
how to mount it in debian

If extension is not loaded, use Appbrowser, part of the stock TC. Connect to repository, select extension in left hand list and click 'Files' tab.

If extension is already downloaded to your machine, create a temporary directory in the terminal, lets say

'mkdir /tmp/111'

and mount OSS.tczm with

'mount OSS.tczm /tmp/111 -o loop'

Now you can see its content in the /tmp/111 directory. Of cource it is read-only. You can unmount on the usual way:

'umount /tmp/111'

It is not clear what you have done, or are trying to do.

Use only tcz extensions. The tce extensions were used in earlier versions of Tiny Core and Microcore, but are no longer used with the recent versions.

Use the latest version.

I suggest installing Tiny Core first, as it is simpler to install than Microcore. You can try Microcore after you have Tiny Core working.

i am trying to uderstand in the practice way how to work with tinycore extension

now i have in my debian machine a second ide hd in it copy the tinycore and the tczm extension. boot it with a choice in the grub menu and tinycore boot an play audio ok.

my final project idea is put this hd in a miniitx car pc for mp3 an dvd playing

but i still understand the diferences betwen

.tce is an old format which is not supported by current versions, 2.4 and onwards. You do not have to deal with .tce files, only .tczm Not only the format is different, but .tce's are not updated anymore.

Kind advice is to use TC 2.4.1, download extensions with Appbrowser to make sure you have the latest and up to date collection.

.tce is a tarball. .tcz are squashfs 4.0, which may be too new for Debian.

To look inside a .tcz file on a Linux system without the ability to mount them, get squashfs-tools-4.0 and use unsquashfs.
