1. dep file includes make.tcz, is this necessary?  (Im not familiar with hackedbox, just testing WMs on 2.4.1)

2. the TC logo is only displayed for a second before disappearing

these are small things, no urgency to fix needed

Yes. make is required.
I will be reviewing the window managers to see if any tweaking is needed in light of the major changes in 2.4
