Title: 10/GUI: Maybe I should get comfortable with sideways titlebars
Post by: MikeLockmoore on October 14, 2009, 12:33:23 PM
Here's a very interesting animation about a multi-touch GUI proposal that places app windows on a long horizontal strip with sideways titlebars a bit like flwm, but app windows "tiled" side-by-side:

I've thought about making a new WM or a variation of flwm that does vertical app-window tiling... but maybe this could work better.  Of course, you need a big touchpad to do the two, three, and four-finger gestures, but at least some types of gestures could be emulated with a traditional mouse movements and mouse keys and/or keyboard keys.

Interesting. But you would have to reach across the touchpad to get to your keyboard. I wonder how tiring that would become?

Sideways saves space. The new modern way for newer wide screens. ;D
And with flwm smart window placement, you often avoid having to move windows, without resorting to a titling window manager.

One has to learn to use the elbows for -that-.  :)

(which will be easier than overcoming the inertia of all those gazillions of mouse users)
