Title: 1-2-3 contact to microcore
Post by: vinnie on October 13, 2009, 07:02:15 AM
I have more question for whitin microcore.

1-where I find the manual of tce-load and its brothers?

2-i tried to install a graphics system on microcore but I failed, here are the steps:
   .installing microcore on usbpen
.copy core elements (Xlibs.core.tczl Xprogs.core.tczl) on tce directory
   .run microcore
   .$ tce-load -w -i Xorg-7.4.tczl (dependecies: pixman, expat2, fontconfig, openssl)
.$ startx (the prompt require wbar, ok i install this but I'd like if choose it)
   .$ tce-load -w -i wbar.tcz
.$ startx (In a few seconds i have a black screen and then return to the prompt with no message)
   .$ tce-load -w -i Xfce4base.tczl (dependecies: gtk2, atk, cairo, pango, glib2, libxml2, graphics-libs-1, fortune-mod, dbus, dbus-glib, libwnck, libglade, ttf-bitstream-vera, libstartup-notification, gnome-icon-theme, shared-mime-info, gamin, libnotify, hal, libpci, libusb, udevadm, libblkid, libuuid).
.the package manager did not install the main package Xfce4base,tczl! ok i reinstall this.
.at the end of the installation prompt says: "mount: /lib/libuuid.so.1: no version information available (required by /lib/libblkid.so.1), in according with this page (http://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php?topic=3348.new;topicseen#new) libuuid is bad....
.I try however startx but i receive the same black screen
.I prove "sudo X -configure", i receive "fatal server error: Caught signal 11. Server aborting", does not give up, "$ cp /home/tc/xorg.conf.new /home/tc/xorg.conf"; "starx"; black screen.
.I prove to install openbox (libuuid is not his dependence), reboot and use this boocode  "microcore desktop=openbox" but dm not start

Please help me :D

Regarding Xfce4 wait till new version will be available in the repository.

Xorg: seems that you did not install graphics hardware drivers: graphics-2.6.29.1-tinycore.tczm

You do not need '... -configure...', use confless setup. Read WIKI article:

So you want to use Xorg. In such case, read:

ok for this guide i install xorg over tinycore (hence upon flwm and xvesa), i want to avoid.
Xvesa.core it's essential for Xorg-7.4 ?

Xorg is optional, you can avoid it fully. But in such case do not ask what is wrong with it. If you need Xvesa use TC, not MC. Simple.

Vinniec is "saying" that he wants to use Xorg

I misunderstood it, sorry. Now I see the target is to build a graphic system based on MC omitting Xvesa and go for Xorg only and with another WM replacing FLWM.  :)

Hi Vinnie,
From your description looks like you did precisely follow instructions...
Regarding the above return to prompt with no message I was getting the same behavior.  When I did 'sudo startx' (which was wrong thing to do) I did get the X desktop screen with the correct resolution, but flwm logout menu item was disabled... No logout, no shutdown or reboot available...
This startted happening to me with TC 2.4, a possible interraction between flwm and Xorg perhaps...
I will do some more testing shortly to confirm this behavior...

For Merkus:  Yes, with my previous message i referred to the guide that you have pass ( http://wiki.tinycorelinux.com/tiki-index.php?page=Using+Xorg+over+Xvesa )

Hi Vinnie,
From your description looks like you did precisely follow instructions...

Prove to use tinycore 2.4.1, I read somewhere a similar error with xorg

I will try to setup the latest Xfce4 on MC later this night both with Xvesa and Xorg.

Vinnie: just one question. Why do you want to use Xorg instead of Xvesa?

Sorry, clicked accidentally... I meant to say this would be beautiful! It looks like would eliminate this redundant core element as well, enhancing relative efficiency...
Looking forward to this next step...

[^thehatsrule^: removed your accidental post]

Vinnie: just one question. Why do you want to use Xorg instead of Xvesa?
My aim is not to have a super lightweight distro, I want a normal distro, with video drivers installed.
A system thus arranged:
-os completely run on ram by usb
-mounting eventual package just-in-time  on demand

The second reason is that I need the tray, only xfce have tray between the WM tinycore.

The third reason is that i have a monitor whit annoyng resolution

Ok, secondo test! (director cut edition)

-prepare an MC with two coreelements
-$ tce-load Xfce4base.tczl (al dependencies of xorg it integrated)
-$ sudo rm /etc/sysconfig/icons (for remove dependecies from wbar, mentioned in this page (http://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php?topic=3393.new;topicseen#new))
-$ startx
    black screen
/usr/local/bin/startxfce4: X server already tunning on display :0.0
-$ startxfce4
    /usr/local/bin/starxfce4: Starting X server
/usr/local/bin/startxfce4: exec: line 77: xinit: not found

What is wrong? What omit doing?

You seem to still be missing an X server.  your choices are Xvesa, Xorg-vesa, Xfbdev, or Xorg (full blown).  Xvesa, Xorg-vesa, and Xfbdev are available from the Xserver dir inside the core_elements dir on the site, which you will need to wget. Xorg (full blown) is available as an extension that can be retrieved the same as any other extension.

I haven't been following this thread closely, since I don't ever use xorg, so I might not be on the same page, but...

Whenever I load a gui on top of microcore, I load -three- corelements - Xlibs, Xprogs and Xvesa and then throw in a window manager (usually jwm).  Is the use of the core elements different with xorg?

[ Edit: Not trying to be redundant, Kingdomcome, you just beat me to it.  :) ]

No problem Lee.  I just realized that Xorg is include in the dep file for Xfce4base, so the lack of an X server is not the problem.  This may in fact be a bug in Xfce4, but Im still testing  ???

Ok finally xorg run!

The problem is  that is don't install VBox-OSE-addictions.tczl, i run tiny from vbox.

The new list of operation:
-microcore + core elements on usb
-run
-tce-load -w -i -r Xorg-7.4.tczl
-tce-load -w -i -r VBox-OSE-additions.tczl (attention, the appbrowser-cli is bugged and not install package with long name)
-sudo rm /etc/sysconfig/icons for wbar (but is superfluous)
-tce-load -w -i -r openbox.tczl (or Xfce4, but this does not work on vbox!)
-startx (it works but you need to click several times on the screen before you can view the menu for bug of guestaddiction unfixable)

Ok very thanks for Kingdomcome for resolving all'of the problem, and thanks to other all for give my attention and and their precious time.
W tinycore, W gnumovement, W the bugs... ehm :D
