Post by: JoXo009 on September 20, 2009, 12:37:07 AM
What I like:

What I don't like:

Tinycore 2.2 didn't misbehave this way.

Probably it's simple to solve. But i don't know how.

Could somebody explain what to do, to make TC 2.3.x shutting down without halting the system.

edited title to more accurately describe the question.

If this is halting your Windows box, complain to virtualbox.
If not, what is the problem?

You may be right, Gerald, if software doesn't work properly, it's not a problem at all, just forget that buggy software.

But that's not my point of view. I think Tinycore is a great piece of software worthwhile to be kept free of unnecessary bugs.

Tinycore 2.2 was able to shutdown properly within Virtual Box, so should Tinycore 2.3.x too.

I checked the shutting down process again.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I got the impression all these messages:

are native Tinycore output and thus showing a general shutdown problem of TC version 2.3.

I think there should be a better solution than to downgrade to TC 2.2.

I would really be interested to learn a workaround.

2.3 powers down my laptop, so I suspect it is a Virtual Box configuration issue.

Don't think so. So far as I see there is nothing to configure in Virtual Box in this context. Sun's Virtual Box just virtualizes an average machine and does it quite well.

Windows as well as all tested Linux distros from Ubuntu to TC 2.2 work nice within Virtual Box.

First time I saw that shutdown problem was in TC 2.3.

I guess there has been a change either in the shutdown code or in the booting sequence between TC 2.2 and TC 2.3.

I hope somebody could explain details giving me a clue how to search for a workaraound.

Shutdown is usually done via ACPI. It is worth to check ACPI settings in real or virtual BIOS if a machine do not turns off.

It is worth to check ACPI

:'( - Yea, you hit the button.

When checking <Enable IO APIC> I must have unchecked <Enable ACPI> the other day by chance.

When both are checked,
boot and shutdown work fine in TC 2.3.  - :)

So my fault and thanks for helping me.
