Title: TC 2.3 aterm issue
Post by: bmarkus on September 06, 2009, 03:15:30 AM
Pressing Alt-Enter in TC 2.3 aterm window the window is closed and disapears from the screen but the process is still there, see ps or top command.

Also, it makes Midnight Commander nearly useless, as Alt-Enter is used to copy selected file name to the command line.

Alt+Enter is the keyboard short to iconize an application.
See right click popup menu. Select  from such to un-iconize.

Thanks... However it is conflicting with MC. How to assign a different key in FLWM? I have been using MC since so long time...

I would likely have to ignore such in flwm, as I have done with Esc key.
I believe there are now about a half dozen other window managers to select from.
Simply download to tce directory. No additional action (boot code) required.

OK, I will stay with JWM for a while as a lite WM.

It is a trival change to ignore Alt+Enter's current behavior. It shall be ignored in next cut.

to me it's comfortable to use alt+enter to hide a window. Instead of ignoring it on the next cut maybe better to change alt+enter to something else

Yeah, I have nothing against to hide, the issu is the conflict with a well established, frequently used MC function.

I am open to suggestions. I ran into this same issue when I first tried to make .jwmrc-keys back in my prior distro days.

ALt F4 to iconize? First glance seems to be OK, but who knows...

When Windows users all expect alt-f4 to close the window? They'll think it closed, and wonder why TC has so high RAM use...

I do not want Tiny Core to look like, act like, or emulate Windows.
I think it is wrong that so many distributions try to do such.

I think it has nothing to do with WINDOWS, it can be Ctrl/F12 or whatever. Just find a key combination without a heavy conflict with key applications.

Why mc?

Without MC I feel myself blind. Even using a WM or DE I prefer MC in a terminal window over any file manager. Most probably it comes from the good old times and Norton Commander. On Windows Total Commander is my most frequently used tool.

Changing configuration? Yes, it is possible. But why? See above...

But we do not have to talk too much about such a simple issue and a personal taste. If this is the behavior of aterm in FLWM that's fine. I will choose another WM instead of FLWM  ;) For me this is closed now.
