hello people

im having some issues compiling the orinoco driver for my compaq n400c onboard wireless chip

i have installed compiletc.tcz and linux-headers-tinycore-2.6.29.1.tcz and dl'd orinoco-0.15.tar.gz and untar'd to ~/.local/bin

this is the make error

Code: [Select]
make -C /usr/local/src/linux-headers-2.6.29.1 M=/home/tc/.local/bin/orinoco-0.15 KERNELRELEASE=2.6.29.1-tinycore modules
make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/local/src/linux-headers-2.6.29.1'
/home/tc/.local/bin/orinoco-0.15/Kbuild:34: *** Wireless extensions are not enabled.  Stop.
make[1]: *** [_module_/home/tc/.local/bin/orinoco-0.15] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/src/linux-headers-2.6.29.1'

Somehow the -headers extension doesn't seem to include the config anymore. Must be a bug in the latest packaging. hats?

A solution on your end would be to download the config from ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/metalab/distributions/tinycorelinux/2.x/release/src/config-2.6.29.1-tinycore and place it named .config into the kernel source directory.

Outside of the issue - there is a driver for orinoco in our wireless extensions. Does it have issues with your chipset?

done! still same message (cant grep CONFIG_NET_RADIO in the .config..?)

well, fn+2 should activate the adapter and no dmesg or ifconfig entries after pressing... checked bios and wireless is enabled...

anything i should / shouldnt be doing (not done much compiling :()

thanks

There is no such option in current kernels anymore. The drivers you're trying to compile must be old.
Try looking for a patch?

Sorry to repeat, but does loading the wireless-2.6.29.1-tinycore.tcem extension not work for you?

tbh, only got that config option through google, not from the site with the drivers... this is the site http://www.nongnu.org/orinoco/ and am pretty sure they are current...

well, am running wireless-2.6.29.1-tinycore.tczm for my old BT pcmcia card (Broadcom chipset)... is there any difference between the tce & tcz?

im lovin tinycore and it has resurrected the wee laptop... would be really sweet to have the onboard adapter working! thanks so far...

thefamousnomo: you may need to have the correct firmware loaded (see the extension and `dmesg`)

Somehow the -headers extension doesn't seem to include the config anymore. Must be a bug in the latest packaging. hats?
Will take a look... thanks

ok, googled around for this and it seems that it may actually be a prism2 chip... but cant get any dmesg output regarding the adapter at all...

will have a further dig around...

still, i should have been able to compile that module, shouldnt i? any ideas why i was getting that error message?

thanks again, really appreciate the distro and all help!

The last release of that driver was in 2006. That explains a lot..

the driver which thefamousnomo needs seems to be a prism2.5, and for it thefamousnomo would require the firmware as well as compile an app (specified in the readme in the url i gave); after that, he can install the driver from the same url and maybe it will do it (fingers cross); yes, old that thing, but this source seems to be reliable and worth a try, i think. an obvious suggestion comes to mind: these times, external wifi cardbus or usb are so cheap, that i won't spend a minute more in this task, and would buy me one or the other in order to get rid of the connection issue quickly.
