Is there an official TC logo? Seems to be this one:
At least I like this. Is it available in vector graphic (psd) and png format?

kagashe had made an SVG version, but it seems not to be online anymore:

Thanks. This png is great, however would be good to recover the source. Will drop him a PM.
-
You could try PM'ing lucky13 also, as he made the logo - kagashe made the SVG based on the PNG.

Current existing logo is fine... but if I had to design one, I would take a small tux icon with a few electrons orbiting around it. Tux represents the (tiny) core linux, while the electrons are the extensions... ::)

I have been thinking about branding via a smallish background image or possible an emblem.
If we have the talent out there to take the current logo and make a transparent background for possible emblem use, that would be awesome. I have absolutely no talent in this area.

Let me see if I can find/re-send the original tarball I sent you last year that had the xcf plus all the different-sized copies of the logo. I thought they were all transparent. I also meant to ask if you wanted me to add a shadow under the logo as there is on the banner added to the ibiblio page. Could take me a couple days to get to it as things have been more hectic here than I thought they'd be.
EDIT: You have mail. Found it first quick look. All the originals were transparent. The tarball has only the blue logo. Why are others using the orange one?
EDIT2: bmarkus, the tarball I just sent Robert has the XCF if you need it for something. He can send it to you, probably faster since my schedule is really hectic right now. I may tweak the logo a bit if Robert approves.

As I mentioned, I have little knowledge about graphics.
I believe my issue is that neither xsetroot or Esetroot can handle an emblem.
When I use esetroot -center core_final_64.png the background becomes black.
I am aware that xsri does handle emblem mode however, xsri size with dependencies is too high a cost to be included in core just for some eye candy.
Perhaps I am overlooking an obvious solution with exsiting tools.
I was hoping for a very low impact solution to "brand" tinycore.
Of course, a full screen background, cost 41K, could be used as below:

The lowest impact would be a flat color with the logo on it. I can get the size smaller if I go a more monochrome look with it. The problem with doing a standard wallpaper is you have to use one resolution and it's going to be distorted for some users, such as setting it at 1024x768 and then someone boots and sees a squishy looking logo on a netbook which may (default) display at 800x600 stretched out to 1024x600 (which is what tiny X does on mine). I have some 1024x600 TC wallpapers that are less than 41k. The one linked below is 35.1kb. I have more somewhere, that's the smallest I have in my Windows wallpaper folder.

An alternative to all of this is to make a rootmenu button on the tray and use a small transparent logo for the "button" (as opposed to the default JWM or "menu" text). Of course, that's jwm-specific and beside the point for flwm. FWIW, the 64x64 logo scaled down to 32x32 is 2.51 kb.
Wallpaper's not worth the addition of xsri plus all the stuff it needs, IMO.

For not knowing much about graphics, I have successfully made an emblem that works with our existing default colored background. So now Tiny Core will proudly display the official logo.
-
branding suggestion: aslo replace the current framebuffer kernel boot logo with the official logo.
-
The logo is great
From the visual point of view at least.
From the logical point of view maybe it could be improved.
It's so easy to mix up terms in a way that 50% think of 'Core' when 'Tiny' is meant. Simply create two names for the same thing and it will happen.
So which name is presented by the logo?
Is it Tinycore?
No, it is Core!
Sooner or later part of people will start using 'Core' and confusion will be great.
So my suggestion:
Why not think about adding a 'T' to the left part of the logo?
'core' jumping out of 'T' - would be a nice visualization for Tinycore, wouln't it?
-
I am confused why there would be confusion.
The Core logo is on our website, it is atop these fourms.
The Core Logo has been the same since our first launch.
The distribution we offer is Tiny Core and Micro Core, with Core being the common element.
IMHO, Having the Core logo in the distribution to match website and forums would seem not to be confusing.
As far a putting it in the kernel, that again, requires another image format 80x80 pnm I believe.
One step at a time.

Completely off topic, what are the Application icons in the screenshot below ? Beaver (editor), Opera (webbrowser) ..... I'm not sure what the the Penguin with head phones is.
Of course, a full screen background, cost 41K, could be used as below:

xmms is the application, a tiny multimedia player.

lucky13: I think it may have been to match one of the various themes/colours
(p.s. long time no see)
