Title: New search bar for the forum
Post by: neonix on January 01, 2025, 02:33:48 AM
Could you add new search bar that redirect user to commercial search engines?
This embedded search menchanism in forum is very bad. Especially if there are many results.

There can be option to choose diferent seach engines.

Instead typu in duckduckgo this phrase, I simply put "firefox" world in this forum bar.
firefox site: forum.tinycorelinux.net

Search is definitely not a strength, but I do not want to force a search engine on someone.  Just use your favorite link you have been doing.

Get started with SearXNG by using one of the instances listed at searx.space. If you don’t trust anyone, you can set up your own, see Installation.

Get Google search results, but without any ads, JavaScript, AMP links, cookies, or IP address tracking. Easily deployable in one click as a Docker app, and customizable with a single config file. Quick and simple to implement as a primary search engine replacement on both desktop and mobile.

Sometimes the forum search brings up threads DDG doesn't. I've been starting with the forum search and using DDG like neonix if the results are too messy. I wouldn't want that first option gone (in fact the ability to use it without logging in would be nice).

try : https://internet4000.github.io/find/

DuckDuckGo also supports Bangs!, which will then be used if Find does not know a "search ! engine"; ex: !def find (will will delegate the to DDG, which knows what to do with !def)
save "user defined URLs" as engine(s) (a sort of "bookmark"), to be re-accessed from their "shortcode", !ex → https://example.org

1. Is the advanced search disabled? If so why? Apologies as i assume this has already been covered ...
2. Suggestion:  can we please add a new forum category: 'meta-forum'  strictly for discussing q&a, bugs/glitches/errors, etc about the forum itself. .. I realize this might confuse people and make it difficult . Maybe worth a shot as an experiment. It would be nice to have all forum-related threads in one place.
3. Multiple minus (NOT) terms seem to not be allowed when using search. Only a single minus-term works. Otherwise i get an error.  I try to search for ADB. That brings up unrelated posts with other words containing that string. So then i try to search and subtract the two most common words containing that string... (not typing here so this doesn't show up when folks try to search for them).  Many thanks everyone for everything.

Hi Ever
Welcome to the forum.

Try using the Google search engine to search tinycorelinux.net:
Code: [Select]
"ADB" site:tinycorelinux.net

Never been an advanced search for this forum.  Search engines are much better.  Our site gets indexed by most search engines, as noted by Rich. if you don’t like Google, others have similar features.

the obvious solution considering the above quote/statement

is to write you own search engine** ( because they are better !!  ;) :P )

**you have to relay like indexing  ;D
