Title: Cannot open downloaded documents
Post by: grjack on August 04, 2009, 09:13:22 AM
Hi

When I download any document file(tried .doc, .rtf, .txt) in opera, firefox, or minefield, I cannot open it using abiword, siag(pw) or leafpad. I can open pdf's with epdfview. Even if I first save the doc and then attempt to open it. It looks corrupted(does not display anything). The file size is correct in the directory. I can create a new doc in abiword , save it and then reopen it, no problem.

Any clues ?

Thanks

Sounds format incompatibility. First I would check .txt files witm mc (Midnight Commander) or simply with a cat command. If looks OK and not corrupted, would try .doc and .rtf with Open Office.

Alternative step to save docs on USB FAT partition and check on WINDOWS machine.

Yes, it is a formatting problem. When I cat the file it contains the text and looks complete, when I open it in abiword, or Siag PW it displays a series of ??????? and nothing respectively.

Is there a global charset that must be defaulted to in TCL ?

thanks
