Hi!
Just a quick note that Firefox has bumped to 3.5.1 it seems.
Have fun,
meo
-
Hi!
Sorry Jason, I should have checked if the Firefox extension already was updated before posting a reminder. A stupid mistake I did so just forget I ever mentioned it.
Have fun with the valuable work you are doing,
meo
-
now firefox 3.5.2 , can not wait for the tce/z
-
Meo - no problem.
They must have updated Firefox last night as I swore I checked on it yesterday. I will make Firefox/Shiretoko 3.5.2 tonight if nothing gets in the way.
-
Firefox/Shiretoko will get updated to 3.5.3 tonight if circumstances permit.
-
I see 3.5.4 is out. Will update Firefox/Shiretoko tonight.
-
This morning an automated firefox update happened to me I thought would be impossible.
What does that mean? - Is such updating safe in TC?
-
Or maybe it was no autoupdate?
Just see in appbrowser:
firefox.tcz
Firefox web browser
Version 3.5.3
...
last line:
2009/10/29 Bumped to 3.5.4
So maybe its only a misleading title of the extension?
-
Some folks want the official Firefox, which I have no control over the features that is was compiled with (autoupdate, urlclassifier, etc). I do have that control with Shiretoko, and the autoupdate & urlclassifier is disabled in Shiretoko.
This can probably be turned off in the preferences menu of Firefox. I would rather not impose a default config file with Firefox.
-
Also, if you are using copy-to-system mode of installing, Firefox will update itself and you can preserve that update by backing up your /usr/local/firefox-official directory. I am not sure what exactly happens if using mounted mode as I have never seen this happen.
I will ponder whether to include a default configuration to prevent this normally undesired behavior.
-
Thank you very much Jason W.
I tested firefox behaviour again and do come to the conclusion, Firefox probably is communicating an 'autoupdate' which in reality didn't take place.
After updating the Firefox extension from a local dir - internect connection cut - Firefox, tries to communicate that 'autoupdate' too, even though it couldn't have taken place as connection was cut. See screenshot:
So I think it's a mere Firefox communication problem and not a problem you need to care for.
-------
By the way, I like your Shiretoko, but the name 'Firefox' is far better known, and creating a ready made VDI install for Windows users I think they will prefer something they know.
-
It's too bad they won't let us use the name Firefox in the name of ouir custom build as the name is very well known.
Perhaps I can add to the info file to disable the autoupdate option in the Firefox menu if one plans to use the extension after a newer version is available rather than make the package bigger by including a ready-made .mozilla config directory.
-
... disable the autoupdate option in the Firefox menu
I think this option is already disabled in your extension, at least it's grayed out as well in my Help dialog as in Preferences/Advanced/Update.
So probably there is no need for additional precaution, it's only necessary to know that Firefox assumes a mozilla update (which didn't take place) after the Firefox extension is TC-updated and you are presented a web page congratulating you for successfull (mozilla-)update.

Actual version is 3.5.5 I'm using 3.5.3 from the repository. 'Check for Updates' in Help iis grayed out and of course it is not attempting to upgrade nor warn that update is available.
-
Another update?
Oh well, off to compiling.
-
Interesting that 3.5.5 now requires gtk2. Previous version was working fine without it.
-
Without gtk2? What toolkit were you using?
-
Without gtk2? What toolkit were you using?
the gnumeric toolkit :)
Looks like gnumeric got deleted from my group, so no gtk2 dep was loaded.
-
Just needed a place to mention this - didn't see it on the forum.
Right now I'm a fan of the stock firefox extension (thanks Jason W and all others involved in the continued upkeep!).
My backups were getting a bit huge, though, and I don't see a forum mention of how to manually disable the urlclassifier files. In short, manually disabling those keeps the file from getting big (mine was 30mb and growing, which makes for annoying backups).
In short, uncheck "forgeries" and "attack sites" at Edit->Preferences->Security, and then delete urlclassifer files (2) in the firefox profile directory (~/.mozilla/firefox/[someprofilestring]/).
A blurb from 2008: http://ychittaranjan.wordpress.com/2008/06/27/urlclassifier3sqlite-woes-on-firefox-3/
-
Thanks for the info, I simply disabled the urlclassifier for Shiretoko.
I didn't look for a setting where it could be disabled by the user during runtime.
I noticed Icecat does not seem to grow the file like Firefox does, but I could be mistaken.

Firefox 3.5.6 is out, will aim to update tonight or tomorrow. Firefox/Shiretoko is already released, Icecat will be updated when it becomes available.
-
Firefox 3.6 is available, I will update the official package. As always, there are increased dependencies with this version milestone, and build errors to troubleshoot. Time is tight right now, so I will update the official firefox.tcz and icecat to 3.6 and update Shiretoko when I can.
-
I am uploading the custom build of Firefox 3.6. The name given to that build by Mozilla is Namoroka. Shiretoko will continue to be updated to those who prefer the 3.5.x series.
-
I see firefox 3.6.9 is out, will update tonight.
I am also uploading the latest builds of Shiretoko (3.5.11) and Gran Paradiso (3.0.19) for those who like to stick with the older releases but want the most updated and secure version of them.
-
I have noticed a newer version of Firefox that has been updated since February 19th and the latest on the servers is the 18.0.2 version. I was wondering if we should just keep one thread for Firefox on a sticky instead of posting new threads over for newer versions to be uploaded. Also, if anyone has any knowledge of the way Firefox changes there performance, i would like to know how they are beefing up there start up performance as stated in the latest release info. Thanks.

I was honestly waiting for 19.0.1, which would surely come out a few days or so after I packaged 19.0. But it is simple to update, and since there are some tangible reasons to update to 19.0 I will go ahead and do it.

Hi Jason W
I was wondering if we should just keep one thread for Firefox on a sticky instead of posting new threads over for newer versions to be uploaded.
If people pay attention and read/use the sticky, sure. The subject certainly comes up often enough.
-
Topic stickied. Please request Firefox updates here.

Hi Jason W
Since Firefox update requests tend to show up under Extension requests it might make more sense to put the sticky
there. Possibly titled something like Post Firefox update requests in this thread

Firefox 19.0.1 is suppose to only address Windows 8 users and doesn't have any newer updates from 19.0 for the Linux users. Thanks for uploading Firefox 19.0 today.
Windows 8 only: Fixed stability issue for some AMD Radeon HD graphics cards.
-
Firefox just released version 19.0.2 only to address a security issue.
Title: Use-after-free in HTML Editor
Impact: Critical
Announced: March 7, 2013
Description
VUPEN Security, via TippingPoint's Zero Day Initiative, reported a use-after-free within the HTML editor when content script is run by the document.execCommand() function while internal editor operations are occurring. This could allow for arbitrary code execution.

I am just replying here, so it falls into my "show new replies posts" when others reply, and LinuxUser01 is already aware we will try for v
21 on another post.
I plan to be the maintainer of Firefox
Firefox is a big download so if you can afford the download, expect big updates to be a part of that decision.
For those who can not afford big downloads can I suggest you search for tags = browser and check the size TAB for the total.
Current Firefox total is over 40 Mb
thanks for reading

Hi aus9!
Seems that Firefox has been updated to 22. Just a reminder. Thanks for all you've done!
Kind regards,
meo

If you agree, can this post be moved to extension requests, as that appears to be its main function?
I forgot I posted here.
So I posted in the extn request area to let ppl know I had submitted v 22 the other day.
-
while looking for an alternative way to print to paper a pdf file,
I just discovered, by accident, my best way ;D
firefox 22 (and probably earlier) can view PDF files
and print
it was the print function that I was after
one happy test completed
-
They implemented the built-in PDF viewer in version 19.

Great moderators
##############
Can you un-sticky this post please.
coreplayer2 supplies firefox-latest.tcz in either 32 or 64 bit flavours, which IMHO is a smarter way to go.
--saves downstream maintainers having to submit a new TCZ each time there is a new release.
-
Done.
