Hello just to post about upgrading FIREFOX to latest release 89
I could notice very good results on my old Laptop , pentium M , 1 gb RAM
Youtube do not freeze , etc . Release 87 had me killing everything like every 10 min .
Thats not happening in 89 release .
in preferences , I have setup ONLY 1 background process ( instead of 8 ( default ) due to RAM limitations )
so far , so good :D

Hi grenchyoll
After reading this I decided to give Firefox 89 a try too. After the upgrade, I noticed most of the text on the forum
was extremely tiny. Same issue on some other sites. The Zoom In and Zoom Text Only options had no effect
on the tiny text. To fix it, I had to:
1. Go to Settings.
2. Under Fonts and Colors, click the Advanced button
3. Uncheck Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of your selections above

Hi Rich !! nice hear from you !
My next step will be to uncheck some routines in "About:config"
so Firefox is not calling home all the time . In FF-87 I had one profile created
with lots of unchecked stuff , it worked fine , after upgrade unfortunatelly
Ive lost it . I will go again this route , maybe this could give me more room
to keep more Tabs open in my Old-Timer Pentium M .
for those who are unaware ( and need to trim RAM & Bandwidth usage ) ,
this is done as follows in Firefox
- open new tab , type About:config ,check "show all "
- uncheck routines as per Firefox site ( https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-stop-firefox-making-automatic-connections )
- save this profile ( About:Profiles )
- to change profiles ( and give you back the routines you have unchecked if you have any site
not working like it should ) , just open new tab , go to About:profiles , and select a fresh profile instead the one you created
this way you can quickly change Firefox from a full RAM & Bandwidth -hunger app to a "lite" version
(avoid playing animations , avoid prefetech and store pages , avoid telemetry , etc )
( forget about it if you have a nice machine / full internet access not charged by the Mb you use ... like me .... )
regards

Hi grenchyoll
If you enter about:about in the address bar you will get a list of the various about pages available.
A few that you might find interesting are:
about:performance lists memory and CPU usage of your tabs.
about:support contains information about your system, drivers, values you modified in about:config, etc.
about:serviceworkers shows lists all the little background tasks various websites have launched.

Hello all
some additional information about performance : after opening , closing some sessions the FF89 performance becomes really poor , so I was like wtf ... but clearing CACHE really solved the problem .
you can quickly do it
> new tab .....about:support / clear startup cache , and bang! performance restored .
I can watch videos 1080p in youtube , really cool considering my Old-Timer laptop

Hi
I just wanna say that the dep could be adjusted if you need better video decoding.
FYI
On TC9 64-bit, firefox downloaded via firefox_getLatest.tcz (59.0.2)
with alternative firefox.tcz.dep
dbus-glib.tcz
faac.tcz
gamin.tcz
gtk3.tcz
hicolor-icon-theme.tcz
libasound.tcz
libavcodec3.tcz
libcdio.tcz
graphics-KERNEL.tcz
Youtube test page (https://www.youtube.com/html5)
The post is old, so the new dep should be
dbus-glib.tcz
faac.tcz
gamin.tcz
graphics-KERNEL.tcz
gtk3.tcz
hicolor-icon-theme.tcz
libasound.tcz
libavcodec4.tcz
libcdio.tcz
